Collecting nearly anything, antique or modern day items, is restricted by a couple of reasons: the amount of money available and also the space to be filled up. Having established all these fundamental requirements, it can be then a personal matter. The taste of the collector may well lead to watches or clocks, china teapots, or countless other items. The fortunate purchase of an adored item may possibly result in a conviction to obtain many same, or at least to discover what the appreciation is all about.

The objective of this website is intended as a guide for the beginner, to assist him through the bewildering maze of antique objects with which he is likely to come in contact. Also, it has much information to aid the more advanced antique collector. It sets out to assist in determining the age of an item; to provide indications that will show the real maker, or at least his nationality; its scarcity; and also to suggest what is really worth getting as well as what to leave for other people.

It is impossible to do more than outline some of the many antiques that may be met with ordinarily, and doubtless there are gaps. To try to fill them, some of the webpages list a few selected books that will be helpful.
