Using Antiques in Home Decorating

Using antiques in home decorating adds a great deal to the look and feel of your home. Using antiques in home decorating do not necessarily mean that you will end up with a home that looks quaint or old fashioned. Incorporating antiques in home decorating can ultimately give you a home that looks and feels very high tech if you want that look. Antiques are items from the past, but they do not have to be disintegrating relics. No, some antiques are items from the early fifties that in their day looked very modern and futuristic and when used in a home decorating scheme today mixed with modern high tech furnishings and electronic equipment, those pieces of chrome furniture from the past will fit right in.

You can also make use of antiques in your home decorating if you want to include things from a collection that you have that are part of a hobby or special interest. Take for example, antique radios. They could be displayed in a large wall unit in your family room and add a lot of character to the look of your room and also give you a chance to show off your specimens instead of hiding them away in the basement. The same is true of any collection of antique items. Home decorating has always been about showing off your favorite and treasured possessions.

Some other examples of using your collected antiques in your home decorating would be displaying a variety of antique perfume bottles or vanity mirrors in your bedroom or hanging a collection of antique silver spoons or pipes on your dining room wall. And in the kitchen you can show off your home decorating talents by placing antique blue and white delft all along the tops of the cupboards for a wonderful antique and European look to the room. Even in a child's bedroom you can use antiques in home decorating plans and projects. You could frame and antique baseball glove and bat in an oak shadow box or you can rest antique dolls on an upper ledge or shelf in your child's room.

If you don't have antique items on hand, but would like to use antiques in home decorating, there are many magazines that will give you lots of home decorating ideas and there are lots of places for you to obtain the antique items that you will need to use for your home decorating. You may even discover a new passion for learning about and collecting certain antiques. And there are many places to go shopping to acquire the antiques you seek. There are antique stores and malls, second hand shops, garage and estate sales, and auctions both live and online. The internet has hundreds of thousands of sites focused on antiques and many of them include the opportunity to purchase the antiques and have them shipped to your door so you can use these antiques in your home decorating.
